Oberammergau and Linderhof Palace, Germany

Our full day in Germany, we opted in to an excursion to fairytale Linderhof Palace, built by “mad” King Ludwig II and Oberammergau, world-famous for its Passion Play — two of the highlights of Southern Bavaria in the high Alps.

Guys, I had no idea how incredibly beautiful the Alps would turn out to be.

About halfway through the drive, the scenery become something breathtaking.

Our first stop was a monastery right outside of Oberammergau. The views… just… wow.

The second stop was one of the palaces of King Ludwig, utterly over the top in only the way that rococo can be. We started off with a scenic walk to the palace.

There are no pictures inside because, well, we were not allowed to take any. But this was the view of the gardens.

And this was the palace.

After the tour, we headed off to the town, which is home of the world famous passion play. This is where we learned a hard lesson. This charming, religious town?

Totally closed on Sunday. Absolutely shut down.

So, I cannot make any travel recommendations about this town outside of don’t go on a Sunday. Hard travel lesson learned… probably should have spent the day in Munich.

Except the views were so pretty, so, it basically made up for it.
