I am in the process of rethinking and reorganizing my wardrobe. You can read out my goals and journey here. But it has lead to me to try several things to clean out my wardrobe, including giving ThredUp a chance.
I am sure many of you have heard of the secondhand online shop, ThredUp. The idea is they pay you for your used clothes and/or you can shop other people’s used clothing. You can order a free bag and the cost of sending your clothes to them is free. Thredup’s staff evaluate your items and then they offer you cash/store credit for your items.
I sent them my items twice. The first time, I sent decent quality goods, but nothing amazing. They took 8 items and gave me $13.90 for them. I thought that was very low, but I was expecting that.
The second time, I gave sent them a lot of what was left of my professional wardrobe. Calvin Klein, the Limited, etc. A lot of really nice items. This time, they took 2 items for $2. I was shocked.
My only conclusion is that there doesn’t seem to be a standard, but very much rely on the person evaluating your bag.
Personally, I don’t think Thredup is worth it. It is nice that the shipping is free, so I would say it is easy and convenient, but you can certainly get more money for your items elsewhere. I don’t see myself really availing myself of their services often. But if you are interested in giving it a try, feel free to use my referral link.
