Lamanai, Belize

I am FINALLY getting around to talking about the second set of Mayan ruins that Z. and I went to on our cruise. If you guys get a chance to go here, you must. Seriously, it was so much fun.

The ruins are incredibly, a good mix of impressive buildings but low enough tourist numbers that you can still touch and get on the buildings. There are few sensations I have encountered like climbing ruins.

To get to Lamanai, you must first take a bus ride from the cruise point to a river. Then it is a river ride to the site.

This site is in the jungle so you might get lucky enough to see monkeys and amazing trees.

Then you hit the ruins.

As I previously stated, you can climb up and touch all the ruins. I would recommend wearing yoga pants, a top you can sweat in, and tennis shoes. Bug spray and sunscreen is a must!

It is probably one of my favorite ruins, outside of perhaps, Tulum, Mexico and Copan, Honduras. If you get a chance to visit, do yourself a favor and go!
